As part of my preparation for this role, I did copious amounts of research on a number of topics related to Matilda and Dahl’s other work. For my Honors College capstone, I chose to write a paper on themes and issues in Roald Dahl’s Matilda that sparked my interest during my research. Below is the paper I completed for my capstone, it touches on the following:
- Differences between the book, the 1996 movie, and the musical
- Aggressive themes in children’s media
- Gender and womanhood in Dahl’s novels
- Children as the hero and narrator of their own story
